Rain Communications Launches Tier 1 Global IP Transit Access For East Africa

Kenyan internet company Rain Communications Limited has made an exciting breakthrough by launching Tier 1 Global IP Transit Access for East Africa. This new service means faster, more reliable internet for people and businesses across the region, thanks to a direct connection with Cogent Communications, one of the world’s biggest and most connected Tier 1 IP networks.

So, what does this mean for customers? Simply put, Rain’s users can now enjoy high-quality internet with very little lag or delay when connecting to websites and services around the world. Even though Cogent doesn’t have offices in Kenya, Rain set up a direct link through a data center in Johannesburg called Teraco JB1. This connection lets internet traffic flow smoothly from East Africa into Cogent’s global network. Basically, Rain is now a direct partner with Cogent in Kenya, giving local users access to one of the fastest and most efficient internet networks out there.

Barry Macharia, Rain’s Chief Technology Officer, said this connection with Cogent gives East African users global reach and a more stable internet experience, starting right from the coast city of Mombasa. Alex Nyagah, Rain’s Managing Director, expressed how excited they are about this step. He said it’s a huge win for internet services in Kenya and East Africa, offering affordable, scalable, and ultra-fast IP transit right from Mombasa.

Mark Harris, Vice President of Sales at Cogent Communications, also welcomed the partnership. He explained that the new connection means Rain’s customers now get direct access to Cogent’s world-class IP network, helping meet the growing need for better internet transit in East Africa.

This fresh service runs from Rain’s gear inside iColo Mombasa, a neutral data center that supports carrier-friendly, quick, and cost-effective operations. Because of this setup, internet speeds are fast, the delays are low, and everything stays local and compliant.

The launch of Rain Communications Tier 1 Global IP Transit Access for East Africa couldn’t have come at a better time. Internet use in the region is growing fast, and now East Africans can enjoy the benefits of direct Tier 1 network access. That means Rain’s customers don’t have to depend on other networks to reach the full internet. They get direct, faster routes to global sites and services, which leads to quicker loading times, smoother streaming and video calls, and better overall online experiences.
