PC Industry Upgrade Cycle: There’s a major upgrade wave about to sweep the PC industry. This is due to the AI capabilities that are infused in new PCs.

The effect is enhanced by AMD and generative AI waves. This development will kick up a major upgrade cycle in the personal computers industry.

Different brands in the industry have unveiled products that take advantage of the software vendor’s Copilot AI tools to make life easier for PC users. HP recently unveiled its OmniBook X AI PC and EliteBook Ultra AI PC.

The devices take advantage of the Snapdragon X Elite processor, with its Neural Processing Unit and Copilot+PC, with features including Recall.

Alex Cho, president of personal systems at HP, said, “In this transformative era of artificial intelligence, how we define an exceptional device is no longer about speeds and feeds. It is measured by our ability to create and enable meaningful breakthrough experiences.”

Acer, not left behind, is also involved with the announcement of its Swift 14 AI laptop. The brand has also taken advantage of Copilot+PC and the power of the Snapdragon X processors.

Unique Features Of AI PCs

AMD recently unveiled its Ryzen 8040 Series notebook processors for AI PCs. The chips feature a neural processing unit, or NPU, integrated with the central processing unit.

NPUs can compress large amounts of data in parallel. The new feature is more power efficient than graphics chips, which is used in AI in cloud data centres.

The NPU is designed to execute machine-learning algorithms. It can also perform specific tasks like image recognition and natural language processing.

Prediction of PC Industry Upgrade Cycle

Tech analysts predict AI PCs to spark PC sales in 2024 and beyond. The upgrade will more than likely get a boost from pc users need to replace ageing  installed base of commercial PCs

Also, research firm IDC predicts PC shipments will rise 3.4% in 2024 after two straight years of declining sales.

AI PCs are expected to increase the average selling prices for PCs, providing a revenue boost to PC makers and processor suppliers.

This development creates a great opportunity for increasing revenues through AI PC sales.
