MTN Nigeria tops as leading mobile internet provider in 2025. If you’re in Nigeria and relying on your phone for the internet, you’ve probably wondered which network really delivers. Well, a fresh report from nPerf, a French company that tracks mobile speeds through real user tests, has the answer: MTN Nigeria tops as Nigeria’s leading mobile internet provider in 2025.
Their report, called the Barometer of Mobile Internet Connections in Nigeria, looked at data from all of 2025. MTN Nigeria came out on top with a score of 37,106 nPoints. Airtel Nigeria trailed way behind in second place at 25,614 nPoints, and Globacom (Glo) took third with 20,475 nPoints. MTN tops as Nigeria’s leading mobile internet provider in 2025 based on what everyday subscribers actually experienced, like download and upload speeds, latency, browsing, and streaming.
nPerf pulled this info straight from speed tests run by Nigerians on their app, focusing especially on busy evening hours from 6 pm to 11 pm, plus quieter times the rest of the day. When it comes to how many tests each network got, MTN Nigeria had the biggest slice at 58%, Airtel 24%, and Glo 18%.

MTN Nigeria leads across the board, no question. They crushed it in average download speeds, hitting 18.65 Mb/s for the year. Airtel managed 10.57 Mb/s, and Glo was at 7.46 Mb/s. Even during peak busy hours, MTN pulled ahead with 15.37 Mb/s, and in off-peak times it was 19.99 Mb/s, perfect for smooth HD streaming or grabbing big files fast.
Upload speeds told the same story. MTN subscribers got the best at 8.70 Mb/s on average in 2025. Airtel was far off at 4.74 Mb/s, Glo at 3.85 Mb/s. Busy hours? MTN did 7.43 Mb/s. Quieter times? 9.12 Mb/s. Solid all around.
Latency, basically how quick data zips back and forth, measured in milliseconds, also went MTN’s way. Lower is better for a snappy connection, and they nailed 96.46 ms average. Glo edged out Airtel for second at 121.81 ms, while Airtel hit 141.12 ms.

Browsing performance had MTN out front at 35.78%, Glo close at 29.86%, and Airtel at 29.45%. For streaming, MTN led big with 67.02%, Airtel second at 62.50%, and Glo at 52.44%. MTN Nigeria tops as leading mobile internet provider in 2025 when it comes to video streaming, downloads, or anything that needs reliable speed.
For us Nigerians picking a network, this nPerf report lays it out clearly. MTN gives the top experience for HD streaming, fast downloads, and video calls. If browsing social media is your thing, Glo’s pretty good there, but it lags in streaming. Airtel could be a swap for streaming, though its higher latency means slower response times compared to the others.
