MTN Nigeria has appointed Egerton Idehen as the new Chief Broadband Officer starting from April 2025. This is a big step for the company as it shows how serious they are about improving internet access across Nigeria. The move also supports the government’s plan to bring better and faster internet to more people in the country.
Egerton Idehen is not new to MTN. He has worked with the company for over 20 years. He started in 2002 as a call center agent, helping customers over the phone. Because of his hard work and skills, he quickly moved up the ladder. Over the years, he took on many important roles, like managing customer relationships, leading regional teams, and running customer operations. His experience inside the company is very strong.

One of Egerton’s biggest achievements was growing MTN’s service agent team from just 1,000 people to over 10,000 in only two years. This helped MTN serve its 70 million customers better. The program he led was called “Service Everywhere,” and it made customer support easier and faster for many people.
When he was in charge of the high-value customers, Egerton helped MTN grow that group by 3% and lowered the number of customers leaving by 5%. He also kept the call centers running smoothly, making sure calls were answered quickly and customers were happy.
MTN Nigeria’s CEO, Dr. Karl Toriola, praised Egerton’s appointment. He said, “At MTN, we always put our customers first. Egerton has been a key part of making sure our customers get great service. With his experience and success, he is the right person to lead our broadband efforts. As we work to bring fiber internet to more people in Nigeria, I believe Egerton will help us move forward.”
Egerton’s education also adds to his strength. He has an MBA from a university in Singapore and is working on a doctorate degree. He has also studied at well-known schools like UC Berkeley and the Wharton School, learning the latest ideas in leadership and business.
He has already helped MTN change the way it serves customers. Under his leadership, digital customer interactions grew from less than 5% to 64%. He also started Africa’s first fully digital telecom store and created MTN’s airport lounge, which many say is the best in Nigeria.
Outside of work, Egerton enjoys playing chess and giving back to the community. He volunteers with groups like the Joshua2 Foundation and Brook Besor Foundation, showing he cares about helping others.
This appointment comes at an important time because MTN is rebranding its fiber internet service to “FibreX.” This fits well with the government’s goal to make high-speed internet available to more Nigerians.
As Chief Broadband Officer, Egerton Idehen will use his experience and fresh ideas to help MTN grow its broadband network and improve service for customers. His leadership will be very important in making internet access better and faster for people across Nigeria.
