MTC officially opens a new Mobile Home in Namibia, marking a significant step to enhance access to telecoms services for 7,000 residents of Omuthiya. This new Mobile Home was officially launched in Omuthiya, the administrative capital of Namibia’s Oshikoto Region, underscoring MTC’s dedication to expanding telecommunications and digital services in areas that have been underserved for a long time.
Previously, residents of Omuthiya had to travel long distances to access MTC services, with the nearest center located 83 kilometers away in Ondangwa. This made it difficult for many people to register SIM cards, pay bills, and access other mobile services conveniently. With the new MTC Mobile Home now open in Omuthiya, locals can enjoy a broad range of telecom services right in their town, including SIM card registration and replacement, account payments and renewals, contract applications, and recharge voucher sales.

Omuthiya, which has a population of close to 39,855 people from the 2023 census, with about 7,500 living within the urban area, stands to benefit greatly. The town is strategically important as it is rapidly developing as a regional economic hub in the northern part of Namibia. By opening the MTC Mobile Home here, MTC aims to support ongoing efforts to improve digital access and economic participation, helping transform Omuthiya into a key access point for telecommunications and digital services for the entire region.
The grand opening attracted many local leaders, community members, and representatives from MTC, highlighting the importance of collaboration between government and the private sector in driving national development. The new Mobile Home is expected to bring affordable communication tools closer to the people, improve service delivery, and open new paths for economic empowerment and connectivity in a part of Namibia that had limited access before.
An Omuthiya resident, Gabriel Tomas, expressed his excitement about the launch of this facility. He said that having an MTC Mobile Home in their town is a vital development, solving many issues related to connectivity, customer service, and access to communication services. He pointed out that Omuthiya is more than just a rural town; it serves as a gateway for many Namibians traveling north. The new Mobile Home will address important community needs such as easier SIM card registration and device support right at home, rather than forcing residents to travel far for these services.
This new Mobile Home is not just about convenience; it is a clear example of MTC’s broader strategy to invest in rural and underserved areas. MTC Namibia has made it a priority to decentralize its services so that no community is left behind in Namibia’s journey toward digital inclusion. By creating permanent service points like the one in Omuthiya, MTC supports national plans for deeper digital infrastructure and ensures citizens across the country have equal opportunities to benefit from modern telecommunications.

As Namibia continues to grow its digital economy and improve ICT connectivity, initiatives like this MTC Mobile Home in Omuthiya bring the country closer to achieving equitable access for all.
In summary, MTC officially opens a new Mobile Home in Namibia in Omuthiya, targeting the enhancement of telecoms access for approximately 7,000 residents. This move not only provides essential communication services locally but also supports the region’s economic growth and digital participation.
