Microsoft lays off more than 300 employees again, just a few weeks after its biggest job cuts in years. On Monday, the company told over 300 workers that their jobs were ending. This is part of Microsoft’s plan to save money and focus more on artificial intelligence (AI).
Earlier this year, Microsoft made a big announcement that it would cut about 6,840 jobs worldwide. That was the largest number of layoffs the company has done in a long time. Now, with this new round of layoffs, it shows that Microsoft is still making big changes to get ready for the future.

The company said these job cuts are needed to help Microsoft stay strong as the world changes. They want to organize the company in a way that helps them succeed in the fast-changing tech market. A spokesperson explained that these layoffs are not because people did a bad job. Instead, it’s about changing the company to fit new goals, especially with AI becoming more important.
AI is changing the way Microsoft works. The company’s CEO, Satya Nadella, said that AI now writes about 30% of the code in some projects. Because of this, Microsoft is spending a lot of money—around $80 billion this year—on building better data centers to support AI. This means they need more people who work with AI, but fewer in other roles.
Software engineers are the group most affected by the layoffs. In the big round of cuts earlier this year, 40% of the jobs lost were software engineers. Managers and project leaders also lost jobs. While it’s not clear exactly who was let go this time, it’s likely that software developers were hit again.
Microsoft is not the only company cutting jobs. Other big tech companies like Meta, Amazon, and Salesforce are also laying off workers. These companies are all trying to adjust to a tough economy and the rise of AI. For example, Salesforce said using AI helps them hire fewer engineers. Many companies are also changing their teams to have more engineers and fewer managers to work faster.
These layoffs have made many Microsoft workers worried about their job security. The company is also making rules stricter, like banning rehires for two years if someone was let go because of their performance. They also offer some employees money if they choose to leave voluntarily.

Even though Microsoft is cutting jobs, it is still pushing forward with new AI projects. Recently, Microsoft added a new feature to its Bing search app called Bing Video Creator. This tool uses AI to help people make videos just by typing what they want. For the first time, this feature is free for anyone with a Microsoft account.
Microsoft lays off more than 300 employees again as it changes how it works and focuses more on AI. This comes after a large job cut earlier this year and shows how the tech world is changing fast. Software engineers are feeling the biggest impact, showing how AI is reshaping jobs in technology.
