Meta has been demonstrating its dedication to empowering African youths. Apart from creating revenue for Kenyan youth, the popular company has met with young Nigerians to enhance and monetize their innovations.
On Friday, March 22, 2024, President of Global Affairs, Nick Clegg, met with Nigerian innovators on content monetization. Nigerian innovators leverage Meta’s platforms to communicate with their community.
Nick shared more information about monetizing content to eligible youths. He highlighted that the plan is accessible to six countries across sub-Saharan Africa. Furthermore, he stated that content creators can now earn money on Facebook and Instagram.
The president of global affairs met with President Tinubu at the state house. Both discussed ways to foster economic growth through technology use in Nigeria. The meeting yielded a plan for content monetization for Nigerian youths.
In the meeting, the Nigerian president highlighted that youths are an asset to the nation in achieving economic digital expansion.
He said, “For us in Nigeria, we have a vibrant, gifted, and resourceful youth population. Recognizing that the future is likely to be AI-enabled, we have to prepare and make our youths ready to compete and participate in the global economy.”
“I can assure you that Nigeria is open for business. We want to lead the African continent in digital technology. Data is valuable to our development. We are ready to cooperate on technological advancements. It is the only way to go. We need a collaboration that will be a win-win for all,”
Furthermore, he said, “What interests me is the use of technology in the development of small businesses. We need to make the business environment more conducive for you and more profitable for us too. I hope we can collaborate and continue to promote our mutual interests.”
Nick Clegg replied, “We have a lot to do with Nigeria to deepen partnerships”. Also, he stated that Meta will introduce a feature on its Instagram that will ensure Nigerian creators monetize their content to earn a living using the app in June 2024.
The innovators invited, who came from different sectors, and used the Meta platforms to entertain and converse with their followers. These include Ifedayo Agoro, the handler of “Diary of a Naija Girl”, and Uche Pedro founder of BellaNaija. Also, a health influencer, Aproko Doctor, came with his water bottle, and AI and Data Analyst Chinazo Anebelundu was also present.
Other notable comedians and creatives in attendance include Taooma, a comedian and cinematographer with a large following. Mr. Macaroni is an actor and content creator known for his viral skits. Also, Mark Angel is a seasoned comedian and video producer who has garnered millions of views.
Tomike Adeoye is a media personality and influencer with a solid online presence. Miss Techy, is a VFX video creator on Instagram with a knack for captivating her audience. Diary Of A Kitchen Lover, a food content creator who has turned her passion into a successful brand. Nelly Agbogu, a social media influencer and entrepreneur, leverages her platform to help and educate small businesses.
