M-Kopa has just hit a big milestone by reaching 1 million customers in Nigeria, making it the fastest country to get there among its five markets. This UK fintech company has been growing fast by helping everyday people in Nigeria get smartphones and access digital financial services in a simple, pay-as-you-go way.
M-KOPA announced it has now served 1 million customers in Nigeria, and this number shows how many people trust and use their services every day. The company’s team has really grown too, going from just 60 workers in 2020 to over 200 full-time staff in 2025. Plus, they have nearly 7,800 direct sales agents out there, with most of them young people under 35, helping spread the word and reach even more customers.

“M-KOPA Nigeria’s amazing growth shows we’re really making a difference for the millions of Everyday Earners who rely on us daily,” the company said. It’s clear M-Kopa customers in Nigeria are getting a tool that helps them manage money better and stay connected.

Besides reaching this 1 million customer mark, M-Kopa has also given cash loans to over 140,000 Nigerian customers. These loans help people get into digital financial services they might not have had access to before, making life a bit easier for a lot of folks.
The story started in July 2021 when M-KOPA officially launched in Nigeria, teaming up with local companies like Airtel. This partnership made it easy for people to buy affordable smartphones with small payments over time. Before that, a test program in Lagos sold over 20,000 phones, proving the idea really works.
One big reason M-Kopa reaches so many people is their strong network of sales agents. Some have done an amazing job: Oluwarantimi Azeez Adewunmi brought in 2,381 customers and is now a top sales executive. Akano Jude Oluwamayowa helped 1,632 people get phones and also got promoted. Then there’s Afolabi Olagoke Azeez, one of the longest-serving reps for almost 5 years, who’s brought in 756 new customers.
M-Kopa’s smartphones aren’t just phones. They come with the Smart Money Platform, which offers customers credit, health insurance, and device protection. This means the phones are real tools for improving lives, not just gadgets.
Earlier this week, M-Kopa also reached 1 million customers in Uganda, supported by 7,484 sales agents there. The company’s goal is clear: they want to include more people across Africa — in Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa — by helping folks own affordable smartphones and access financial services.

M-Kopa reaching 1 million customers in Nigeria is a big deal because it shows how technology combined with smart financing can help millions live better. It’s not just about selling phones; it’s about offering a way out of financial struggles for many everyday Nigerians.
With this kind of growth and strong team, M-Kopa is set to reach even more customers in Nigeria and beyond. The future looks bright for this company and the people it serves.
