JAMB has Released Mop-Up Results for 11,161 Candidates, Cracks Down on Fake Admission Letters

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released mop-up results for 11,161 candidates who sat for the mop-up Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) held on Saturday, June 28, 2025. This announcement comes ahead of the board’s policy meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Out of the 96,838 candidates originally scheduled for the mop-up exam, only 11,161 were present and have had their results released so far.

The mop-up exam was created to help three groups of candidates: those who missed both the main and resit UTME exams, those who had biometric verification problems, and spill-over candidates from earlier sessions. Specifically, the exam aimed to accommodate 5,096 spill-over candidates and those who failed biometric verification during the main exam. Additionally, 91,742 candidates who were absent from either or both the main and resit exams were given a special chance to participate, but only for the 2025 exam season.

JAMB has urged candidates who have not been able to access their results to carefully follow the correct procedure. The main reason some candidates cannot see their scores is that they did not send the required text message correctly. Candidates must send “UTMERESULT” as one word to either 55019 or 66019 using the same phone number (SIM) they used to register for the UTME. Failure to do this properly has caused many to miss their results.

In addition to releasing mop-up results, JAMB has intensified its crackdown on fake admission letters. The board has been working closely with the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) to tackle a syndicate producing and distributing forged JAMB admission letters for a fee. In 2024, five ringleaders of this criminal group were arrested and are currently being prosecuted at the Federal High Court in Abuja in the case titled Inspector General of Police vs Effa Leonard and four others.

Following the arrest and confession of the syndicate leaders, JAMB flagged a total of 17,417 candidates as beneficiaries of fake admission letters. Between 2024 and May 2025, the board cleared 6,903 of these candidates after they corrected minor discrepancies in their records. However, 10,514 candidates were referred to police investigation offices for further checks. Among these, 5,669 were confirmed to have outrightly procured forged admission letters. Another 4,832 candidates tried to bypass official admission processes by using the syndicate, especially those whose admissions were undisclosed to JAMB and were being processed under a ministerial waiver from 2017 to 2020.

JAMB also identified 13 other candidates involved in irregularities, with 12 of these cases dating back to 2017 when the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) was introduced. These flagged candidates are spread across various institutions, including Bayero University Kano, Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Ramat Polytechnic Maiduguri, Federal University of Technology Akure, Ekiti State University, Yaba College of Technology, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Osun State Polytechnic Ire, Ben Idahosa University, Obong University, and the University of Ilorin. The board has decided to give these candidates an opportunity to fix the anomalies in their records and print new admission letters following its meeting on July 5, 2025.

The board’s efforts to release mop-up results for 11,161 candidates and crack down on fake admission letters demonstrate its commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency in the admission process. JAMB continues to warn candidates against engaging in fraudulent activities and urges them to follow all official procedures to access their results and secure genuine admission letters.

JAMB has released mop-up results for 11,161 candidates from the June 28 exam and is actively cracking down on fake admission letters by prosecuting syndicate leaders and investigating thousands of flagged candidates. The board remains focused on maintaining the integrity of the admission process and ensuring that only qualified candidates are admitted into tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
