Security is a major concern to Flutterwave as well. The app has been certified by PCI-DSS Level 1 which is the highest level in the payments industry. With this certification, we ensure that all transactions are encrypted and protected against fraud and unauthorized access.
Flutterwave Founder and CEO, Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, said in a statement the platform was excited to announce the launch of Send App in Ghana. “With the Send App now live in Ghana, we are providing a fast, reliable and accessible solution for individuals and business to receive international payments without stress. This is a big step forward in our vision of connecting Africa to the global economy,” said Agboola.
The announcement was in response to Flutterwave’s recent approval from the Bank of Ghana, to offer inward remittance services to its clients in the country. The approval is part of a fintech landscape which has been taking off in Ghana as the country has seen an expansion of the mobile phone population and a rapidly maturing mobile money ecosystem. Mobile money platforms are critical to Ghana’s economy with about 60 per cent of foreign exchange going through them. Since the Bank of Ghana’s establishment, there has been a favourable regulatory framework to facilitate and foster fintech innovation. As such, Ghana makes perfect business sense for Flutterwave.
Flutterwave has been expanding fast across Africa and the world. In 2024 alone, the company announced expansion into five new African countries, Rwanda, Uganda, Zambia, Mozambique and now Ghana, and now has established itself in more than 35 countries. With its new Payment Service Provider license, Flutterwave can now take many of its existing services and offer them faster and more efficiently than before – without the need for third party providers.
Flutterwave has begun an extensive expansion of its payments ecosystem across Africa, with today launching Flutterwave Send App Ghana. In addition to providing safe and efficient payments for remittance recipients, it has set out to help promote financial inclusion and economic development.
