Flutterwave CTO Gurbhej Dhillon Departs from the Company After Three Years

Gurbhej Dhillon, the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Flutterwave, has announced that he is leaving the company. He shared the news in a LinkedIn post on Thursday, May 1, 2025. Dhillon joined Flutterwave in 2022, coming from Goldman Sachs, and has spent three years helping the company grow and improve its technology.

In his post, Gurbhej Dhillon said, “After an incredible journey as the Chief Technology Officer at Flutterwave, I am stepping away from the company. This decision marks the close of an amazing chapter and the beginning of a short but much-needed break as I prepare for the next step in my career.” This means he is taking some time off before starting something new.

The news that the Flutterwave CTO departs from the company comes after a few other important leaders also left in recent times. For example, the Chief Financial Officer, Oneal Bhambani, left in November 2023, and the Chief Operating Officer, Bode Abifarin, left in March 2024. These changes show that Flutterwave is going through a time of big shifts in its leadership.

When Gurbhej Dhillon joined Flutterwave, the company said he would help improve its technology systems and lead the engineering and product teams. During his time there, the company reached some important goals. Under his leadership, Flutterwave made strong partnerships with big companies like Microsoft and Capgemini. The deal with Capgemini helped Flutterwave grow its engineering team and work with experts from around the world. The partnership with Microsoft made the company’s technology even better.

Also, Gurbhej Dhillon oversaw the relaunch of the Send App. This app now helps people in more than 34 countries receive money from other countries easily. This was a big step for Flutterwave in making money transfers simple and fast.

Gurbhej Dhillon departs from Flutterwave at a time when the company is growing its services in Africa. In March 2025, Flutterwave worked with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to help small businesses in Nigeria with digital payments, online selling tools, and access to finance. The company also expanded in Ghana by launching the Send App there and partnering with Affinity Bank to make payments through bank transfers easier.

Flutterwave CTO departs from the company as Flutterwave changes its focus. The CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, recently said that instead of focusing on going public through an initial public offering (IPO), the company now wants to focus on making profits first.

Gurbhej Dhillon’s departure is a big moment for Flutterwave. He helped the company grow and improve its technology during his three years there. Now, as he moves on, Flutterwave is working hard to keep growing and become profitable in the competitive world of African fintech.
