Outrage With Recent JAMB Results has Led to a Class Action Lawsuit Spearheaded by Edutech Founder Alex Onyia
The recent release of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has caused a huge uproar across Nigeria. Many students, parents, and education experts are deeply unhappy with what they call the poorest performance in recent years. The 2025 UTME results show a shocking decline in scores. Out of nearly 2 million candidates, over 1.5 million scored below 200 out of 400 marks. Only a tiny fraction, about 0.63%, scored 300 or more. Alarmingly, nearly 40,000 candidates had their results withheld over alleged malpractice, while some examination centers were blacklisted due to technical problems. Compared to previous years, these numbers are drastically worse. For example, in 2022, over 378,000 candidates scored above 200, but this year more than 75% scored below that mark.

Many students who have consistently performed well in past exams were stunned by their low scores this year. On social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), thousands of candidates and parents have shared their frustrations using the hashtag #THISISNOTMYRESULT. They complain of missing questions during the exam, technical glitches, and results that do not match their efforts or past performances. For instance, a candidate who scored 295 last year got only 132 this year, and another dropped from 311 to 148 marks. These cases have fueled suspicions that the results are inaccurate or unfair.
In response to the growing public outcry, Alex Onyia has taken a bold step by organizing a class action lawsuit against JAMB. He has called on affected students to submit detailed complaints through a form, which will be used to build the case. The lawsuit, set to be filed at the Federal High Court, demands that JAMB release the full marking sheets and scoring details for all candidates. This would allow students to verify their results and challenge any errors. Onyia argues that JAMB’s system was inefficient and caused serious harm to many students’ mental health and futures.
JAMB has acknowledged the unusual volume of complaints and announced a fast-tracked review of this year’s exam process. The board said it is working with experts to investigate the issues raised, including possible technical faults during registration, the exam itself, and result release. JAMB’s spokesperson stated that if any problems are found, appropriate corrective measures will be taken. However, many candidates and parents remain skeptical and want more transparency and accountability from the examination body.

It highlights widespread dissatisfaction with the 2025 UTME results and demands greater openness in how scores are calculated and released.
