Detained Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan’s health is quickly declining and is “mostly bedridden,” and he is reportedly being denied “adequate” access to his legal team.
His legal team has not been allowed into Kuje Prison to meet him since July 26, 2024.
According to Mondo-Advisory, who represents the Binance executive family, Tigran has a herniated disc in his back and needs surgery.
He also reported that Tigran had throat infections, pneumonia, and needed surgery to remove his tonsils.
Yuki Gambaryan, Tigran’s wife, said in a statement, “The herniated disc in his back has worsened to the point where it might leave permanent damage and affect his ability to walk.”
She finally said, “My once fit and healthy husband, who loves working out, is now wheelchair-bound due to a treatable condition that has not been properly addressed.”
The Binance executive was previously sent to Kuje Correctional Centre in April 2024. This was after he pleaded not guilty to money laundering charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and four counts of tax evasion by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS). These charges were in line with his connection with Binance.
Binance CEO, Richard Teng, has provided a representative and has called the Nigerian government to release Gambaryan. However, the high court in Abuja went on holiday in July, with the next hearing for Gambaryan’s trial adjourned till October.
Gambaryan’s legal team has also been barred from entering Kuje prison to meet with their client.
