Africhange Launches UK Bank Accounts and Achieves Bank of Canada Registration, Boosting Its International Footprint

Africhange has hit two big milestones that really show how serious they are about helping Africans living abroad manage their money in better ways. First up, they’ve teamed up with Griffin, a UK-licensed bank, to bring UK bank accounts to their users in the UK. This means Africhange customers can now open real GBP bank accounts with their own sort codes and account numbers, not just simple virtual wallets that route payments.

These accounts are fully functional, letting users receive direct deposits, hold GBP balances safely, and transfer money easily through the faster payments network. Plus, these accounts come with FSCS protection for eligible deposits and options for linked savings. Basically, this partnership is a game-changer for African immigrants in the UK who have long struggled to access proper banking services.

David Ajala, the CEO of Africhange, puts it simply: they’ve lived the immigrant journey, so they know the struggles firsthand. That’s why they’re aiming to be more than a remittance service, they want to be a trusted financial partner where users can hold balances, manage UK finances, and even earn rewards called Afripoints, all within one platform. Griffin’s CEO, David Jarvis, also points out that many immigrants face unnecessary barriers opening basic bank accounts, and this collaboration is about breaking down those walls to provide essential financial tools. Looking ahead, Africhange plans to roll out some exciting features like a “Send Now, Pay Later” option in 2026, allowing users to send money instantly and pay it back later. They’re also working on a debit card that will make spending and withdrawing money in the UK and beyond super easy.

Africhange launches UK bank accounts

On the other side of the globe, Africhange has just been recognized by the Bank of Canada as one of the country’s first registered Payment Service Providers (PSPs). This is a huge deal. The Bank of Canada’s Retail Payment Activities Act registry, published in October 2025, includes Africhange among just 300 entities that passed a tough evaluation process. This process involved national security checks coordinated by the Department of Finance, strong risk management frameworks, and strict customer fund protection protocols. Ajala says this registration shows their dedication to doing things right, focusing on regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and keeping customers safe. It also means Africhange is now under the direct supervision of the Bank of Canada, marking a step up from their previous status as a Money Services Business registered with FINTRAC since 2019.

Tega Gabriel, Head of Growth at Africhange, highlights how this is a win not just for Africhange but for all Canadians who depend on modern payment solutions. The new PSP status reflects a balance between regulation and innovation, ensuring consumers are protected while new financial technologies flourish. In short, Africhange’s UK bank accounts and Bank of Canada registration are big wins that boost its international reach and credibility, making it a stronger partner for Africans living abroad and Canadians alike.

In all, Africhange launches UK bank accounts and achieves Bank of Canada registration, marking important steps in its mission to empower people across borders. With real GBP bank accounts fueled by the Griffin partnership and official PSP recognition in Canada, Africhange is building a trustworthy and versatile financial platform that goes far beyond simple money transfers. This is great news for anyone looking for safer, smarter, and more connected ways to handle their money internationally.
