October 14, 2024

Binance Executive Fresh bail: Binance’s executive, Tigran Gambaryan, was denied bail for a second time on Friday as his trial on money laundering charges started in Nigeria.

The judge in charge ruled that the prison in which he is being held was capable of meeting his medical needs, according to Reuters

The judge. Emeka Nwite, in a ruling, dismissed the application on the. grounds that it constituted an abuse of the court process.

Tigran had asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to free him on medical grounds, arguing that he needed to undergo surgery outside prison and that his health was deteriorating.

Mr Nwite held that Gambaryan’s request could not be granted when he was still challenging the earlier bail ruling at the Court of Appeal.

The judge, who stressed that the defendant failed to withdraw his pending appeal against the earlier ruling on his bail application before filing another motion, said such an act amounted to an abuse of court process.

“There is no evidence before this court that the Nigerian Correctional Service cannot handle the health challenges of the accused,” Judge Emeka Nwite said.

Judge Refer Tigran Gambaryan To Standard Hospital In Abuja

Nwite also said Gambaryan had not withdrawn an appeal against a previous bail ruling in May so his latest request “amounts to abuse of judicial process to admit the accused to bail while an appeal is pending at the court of appeal.”

The judge, however, ordered the NCoS to refer Mr Gambaryan to any standard hospital in Abuja for a period of two to three days.

He went on to adjourn the trial to Oct 18 after Gambaryan’s lawyer cross-examined two state witnesses.
